Overview/ Job Responsibilities

The AWS Cloud Engineer is responsible for engineering optimal performance, security, and availability of the customer AWS environment. The incumbent should have technical expertise in the AWS cloud platforms, excellent problem-solving skills, and experience providing Tier III support within a cloud infrastructure environment. The role requires an in-depth understanding of AWS infrastructure management, as well as the ability to work closely with IT and business stakeholders to identify and resolve any technical issues related to cloud systems. The ideal candidate should have a passion for the technology stack and be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The incumbent should also demonstrate a can-d attitude, proactive and continuous learning, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service to both business and IT stakeholders.

 

This position requires onsite presence at the customer location (Arlington, VA) five (5) days per week.

 

Responsibilities

  • Identify and resolve incidents, service requests, and problems related to the cloud environments within agreed SLAs.
  • Collaborate with IT and cloud stakeholders in providing technical support, such as incident triage, root cause analysis, and resolution.
  • Design, deploy and maintain AWS and Azure infrastructure and services utilizing Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
  • Implement automation to enhance cloud efficiency, performance, and security.
  • Optimize the cloud architecture per customer requirements while adhering to applicable security and change management regulations and policies.
  • Monitor and maintain the cloud platform infrastructure and applications, including security monitoring, disaster recovery, pricing, and cost optimization.
  • Provide expertise to other teams as required for enabling cloud solutions, managing cloud applications, or developing integrations leveraging cloud services and APIs.
  • Maintain and implement disaster recovery and redundancy strategies for cloud environments, ensuring reliability and data integrity.
  • Support security incidents or threats, including alerts generated by cloud monitoring or threat intelligence tools, and initiate triage and remediation per procedure.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • 5-9 years of experience in supporting AWS cloud environments is essential.
  • Strong experience with AWS infrastructure management, including EC2, RDS, S3, VPCs, Security Groups, etc.
  • Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation or similar infrastructure -as-code tools required.
  • Hands-on experience with automation tools like Ansible, Chef or Puppet and deploying Docker containers on either cloud environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of security regulations and standards.
  • Experience in working with Agile and DevOps methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Advanced understanding of Linux/Unix and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience in monitoring and log aggregation tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, etc.
  • Relevant AWS certifications like AWS SysOps Administrator Associate will be an added advantage.

Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship and be able to obtain DHS CISA suitability.

Desired Qualifications

Clearance Preference:

  • DHS EOD - 1st priority
  • Any DHS badge + DoD Top Secret or Secret - 2nd choice
  • DoD Top Secret + willingness to obtain DHS/CISA suitability - 3rd choice (it can take 10-60 days to obtain suitability – work can only begin once suitability is fully adjudicated)
