Overview/ Job Responsibilities

The GCP Systems Engineer will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability of the GCP environment. The role requires technical expertise in GCP infrastructure management, excellent problem-solving skills, and experience in providing support within a virtual cloud infrastructure environment. The incumbent will work closely with IT and business stakeholders to identify and resolve any technical issues related to GCP systems, monitor performance metrics, and ensure stability of the GCP infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the technology stack and be able to handle complex technical issues in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment. Applicants should demonstrate a can-do attitude, proactive and continuous learning, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service to both business and IT stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities

  • Implement, optimize, and maintain the GCP infrastructure, using best practices to ensure it is reliable, secure and performant.
  • Provide technical support to stakeholders across the organization, including incident triage, root cause analysis, and resolution.
  • Create and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) through Terraform, Google Cloud Deployment Manager or similar tools.
  • Develop and implement automation for and related infrastructure monitoring systems.
  • Design and implement failover, disaster recovery and redundancy solutions for GCP environments to ensure reliability, data integrity and system uptime SLAs.
  • Inspect and refine GCP systems/applications to ensure compliance with related security standards.
  • Optimize the cost of infrastructure following GCP pricing model and recommending solutions to cut operational costs.
  • Build and maintain tools to provide necessary metrics for capacity and performance planning.
  • Work collaboratively with development and infrastructure teams to onboard new services or applications to the GCP platform through DevOps processes.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex technical issues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • 3-7 years of experience in designing, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining GCP infrastructure, with a focus on IaaS/PaaS services.
  • Experience in working with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Google Cloud Deployment Manager, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible. Experience with Helm and Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Good understanding of GCP networking, VPC concepts, firewalls, load balancing, VPNs, and DNS management.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows administration.
  • Knowledge of GCP security services and compliance requirements, including Identity and Access Management, Security command Center, and data classification policies.
  • Experience deploying and managing Open-Source applications on GCP such as MongoDB, Elastic Stack and Kafka and integrating with legacy systems and monitoring tools.
  • Ability to analyze business requirements and transform them into GCP technical strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Docker, and other modern software engineering practices. particularly in the context of infrastructure engineering.
  • Certification in Google Certified Professional Cloud Architect, Google Certified Associate Cloud Engineer, or Google Certified Professional Data Engineer preferred.
  • Must be clearable for a US Government Clearance

Desired Qualifications

Clearance Preference

  • DHS EOD - 1st priority
  • Any DHS badge + DoD Top Secret or Secret - 2nd choice
  • DoD Secret or Top Secret + willingness to get EOD clearance - 3rd choice (it can take 45 days to obtain EOD clearance – work can only begin once the clearance is fully adjudicated)
