Overview/ Job Responsibilities

The Hybrid Cloud Architect supports the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) initiative to deliver advanced enterprise cloud capabilities and services for the Agency. These capabilities are essential for CISA’s ongoing efforts to build a modern IT infrastructure, integrate emerging technologies, transition to cloud environments, enhance mobility and collaboration platforms, and continuously improve the performance, security, and availability of enterprise IT services. We are seeking a talented Hybrid Cloud Architect to join our dynamic and growing team. The ideal candidate has a strong background in cloud and network architecture alongside hands-on keyboard experience with cloud, IaC, and network technologies. This role demands an innovative mind, keen problem-solving skills, customer facing professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining the best cloud infrastructure practices.

 

**This position requires the candidate to be on-site 2 days a week in Arlington, VA**

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and efficient cloud-based architectures using a mix of public, private, and hybrid cloud solutions.
  • Support the Lead Architect in the architecture and engineering of complex cloud solutions, ensuring they meet the high standards of business and technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, Security, and Product Development to ensure seamless cloud integration.
  • Perform hands-on tasks, including the deployment and management of cloud resources, automation scripts, and infrastructure as code.
  • Assess cloud architecture issues in the current environment and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Develop and document best practices, strategies, and guidelines for cloud solutions.
  • Mentor and guide team members, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
  • Develop business cases for implementing new CISA enterprise cloud solutions.
  • Establish architecture standards and create conceptual and logical designs for DHS CISA/OCIO systems.
  • Develop and maintain an Enterprise Technology Strategy and Target Architecture.
  • Design, engineer, test, and implement enterprise cloud services and associated technologies.
  • Create comprehensive Technical Requirement Documents (TRD) and Detailed Design Documents (DDD), including applicable Agile methodology documentation, ensuring smooth transitions to operations.
  • Design, test, and implement secure and reliable network connectivity to cloud services, including commercial cloud service providers (CSPs), private cloud, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to test cloud systems and application migration processes, ensuring systems meet requirements and maintain performance and security standards.
  • Develop standardized test plans to verify system functionality prior to production deployment.
  • Create test reports and implementation plans for changes within the cloud network environment.
  • Test new hardware/software to address software bugs or vulnerabilities, ensuring integration with the existing environment.
  • Manage system hardware and software releases, changes, and installations to minimize disruption.
  • Prepare and submit Change Requests (CRs) in the configuration management tool, coordinating with stakeholders for review, approval, and support.
  • Demonstrate expertise in one or more Cloud Infrastructure (IaaS) offerings and provide solution discussions with clients.
  • Design and implement multi-tier architecture solutions that are highly available and fault-tolerant using cloud platform services.
  • Design and implement cloud computing solutions that align with organizational structure, communications, and operational business processes, considering financial management and cost implications.
  • Manage the migration process to a cloud environment (cloud to cloud, on-prem to cloud), analyzing current workloads, and configuring new systems or services to enhance business operations.
  • Leverage the latest technologies, trends, and best practices to ensure a secure, high-performance, and reliable network that supports current and future CISA applications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Network and Cloud Engineering Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in designing, engineering, and providing operational support for medium to large enterprise network environments, including expertise in cloud engineering. Relevant certifications include AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
  • Cloud Platform Proficiency: In-depth experience with public and private cloud platforms, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure Cloud, and Google Cloud.
  • Cloud Networking: Demonstrated experience with Cloud Service Routers (CSRv) and in migrating legacy on-premises networking infrastructures to cloud-based networks.
  • Client-Focused Solutions: Proven ability to gather requirements from prospective customers and tailor custom products and solutions to meet their specific needs.
  • Analytical and Critical Thinking: Strong data-driven mindset with analytical expertise, coupled with a solution-driven and service-oriented personality.
  • High-Performance Environment: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-SLA, deadline-driven environment, consistently delivering high-quality results.
  • Cloud Identity and Access Management: Solid experience with cloud identity and access management frameworks and practices.
  • Cloud Computing Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of cloud computing models, including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS), along with a keen awareness of the competitive landscape.
  • Infrastructure Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of core infrastructure components such as firewalls, load balancers, hypervisors, storage, monitoring, and security, with experience in orchestration to develop robust cloud solutions.

 

Certification Preference: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Certified Cloud Professional Cloud Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert  

Desired Qualifications

Clearance Preference:

  • Active DHS/CISA suitability - 1st priority
  • Any DHS badge + DoD Top Secret - 2nd choice
  • DoD Top Secret + willingness to obtain DHS/CISA suitability - 3rd choice (it can take 10-60 days to obtain suitability – work can only begin once suitability is fully adjudicated)
