Overview/ Job Responsibilities

Supporting the Space Warfighting Analysis Center’s (SWAC) Force Design Integration Office (FDIO) in Colorado Springs, CO, with anticipated travel in support of the SWAC’s priorities to create the Chief of Space Operations Force Design, the Force Design Data Transportation SME will identify the integrated suite of capabilities to fulfill the United States Space Force (USSF) imperatives to preserve the United States’ freedom of action in space; enable joint force lethality and effectiveness; and provide independent options in, from, and to space. 

 

As the Force Design Data Transportation SME will support USSF decisions for resourcing, policy development, and operational planning, the Data Transport SME will accomplish the following actions:

  • Coordinate Force Design recommendations and translate them into system level performance parameters and assist with documenting and advocating for recommended requirements through validation processes for the Service, Joint Forces, and acquisition organizations.
  • Assist in sufficiency and effectiveness requirements reviews of integrated families-of-systems in order to identify gaps and interdependencies between the systems
  • Develop the USSF’s integrated Blue Order of Battle for data transport (includes C2, frequency, data management, etc expertise), understand the technical aspects & joint interrelationships of it
  • Integrate the SWAC’s Centers of Excellence designs with the data transport layer to create overarching Force Design products at multiple classification levels.
  • Support innovative ways to leverage new technologies, latest technical trends and commercial best practices to employ space capabilities in support of the joint warfighting community
  • Recommend, document, and maintain SWAC-derived recommended requirements
  • Act as SWAC’s primary interface with CSRO and SSC to articulate SWAC-recommended requirements for data transportation
  • Recommend investment priorities and inform S&T investment activities
  • Capture and recommend force design dependencies and opportunities (commercial, civil, joint, intelligence community, international and other government organizations)
  • Capture enterprise-level requirements
  • Ensures requirements of the force design fulfill joint requirements and warfighting scenarios
  • Interface with Service and Joint Staff and USSF Field Commands on behalf of SWAC
  • Create and communicate the Chief of Space Operations’ strategic-level Force Design
  • Support or lead high-visibility efforts
  • Responsible for running all aspects of the force design conference, from coordination, to creating products, as well as the execution (nominally 2-3 per year)
  • Salary range from 175k-195k (negotiable)

Minimum Qualifications

  • STEM Bachelor’s Degree (STEM Master’s Degree highly desired) plus 10+ years’ technical experience in data transportation, C2 (command & control), RF properties, etc.
  • 5+ years of Commercial Space Advanced Development
  • Systems engineering or systems-of-systems engineering space design and/or architecture experience
  • requires knowledge in the areas of command and control (C2), radiofrequency (RF) properties, data transportation, data processing, data storage, data dissemination and data routing. 
  • Technical depth and breadth of all space capabilities, and incorporate science & technology advancements, innovative ideas, industry best practices, and capability development trends and emerging opportunities into the integrated force design. 
  • Experience with DoD, IC, and Commercial Satellite systems in SCI/SAP environment
  • Ability to quickly create decision-quality materials for senior leaders
  • Understanding complex technical analysis and generating producing for senior leadership
  • Applying critical thinking in complex and dynamic organizational environments
  • Having strong communication skills (technical writing, developing presentations, etc.)

Clearance:Top Secret/SCI and Special Access eligibility required

Desired Qualifications

  • 5 + years of Acquisition experience
  • Experience with DoD, IC, or commercial requirements generation processes
